Dimoldenberg's career did not originate on TikTok or YouTube algorithms. Her foundation sits in print journalism and community-level arts education. Raised in Marylebone, London, the daughter of veteran Westminster City councillor Paul Dimoldenberg, she developed an early fascination with awkward social mechanics and celebrity profiling. During her teenage years, she volunteered at the youth organization The Face in East London, writing for their quarterly youth magazine, The Cut.
It was within the pages of The Cut that Dimoldenberg first conceived of interviewing grime MCs in local takeaway joints. She chose the setting deliberately: chicken shops were hyper-local, community-centered, and inherently unglamorous. They sat in direct opposition to the pristine hotel suites typical of British television press days. Her subjects included rising London artists like Ghetts and Jammer, who found themselves sitting across from an understated art student asking earnestly unhinged questions about their dating preferences.
Her comedic sensibilities sharpened while attending Central Saint Martins, where she studied Fashion Communication and Promotion. The university environment pushed her to translate the column into moving image. Graduating in 2017, she bypassed traditional media gatekeepers, investing small personal sums and borrowed college equipment into publishing the first video iterations of Chicken Shop Date to YouTube. While television production companies repeatedly told her that internet-first formats could not sustain commercial scale, she continued shooting on location in local spots across London.
