Unlike modern animated sitcoms such as The Simpsons or Bob's Burgers, which employ extensive rosters of veteran voice talent and celebrity guest stars, South Park operates under a hyper-centralized production workflow.
Parker and Stone famously produce episodes in six days, writing, recording, and animating just hours before the episode airs on Comedy Central. Bringing in outside union actors or busy late-night hosts requires advance scheduling, studio booking, contract negotiations, and vocal track syncing that the six-day turnaround cannot accommodate.
Parker voices Stan, Cartman, Randy Marsh, Mr. Garrison, and Jimmy. Stone handles Kyle, Kenny, Butters, and Gerald Broflovski. When outside guests appear, they are almost exclusively recorded for special events or quick self-contained jokes. Jimmy Valmer's ongoing status as an episodic regular makes outside casting impractical.
