The domestic situation inside the couple's Rising Glen Road home was suffocating. Brittany’s mother, Sharon Murphy, lived alongside Brittany and Simon, serving as an enabler and caretaker in an environment dominated by prescription bottles, extreme paranoia, and closed curtains. When Brittany died on December 20, 2009, she left her entire estate to her mother, deliberately cutting Simon out of her will, a detail drafted well before her death.
That legal firewall did little to protect actual capital. Simon had direct access to Brittany's liquid bank accounts during their two-and-a-half-year marriage. Forensic audits carried out after Murphy’s death indicated that Monjack spent lavishly on luxury jewelry, European travel, and off-the-books bank transfers while leaving enormous tax obligations to the IRS. Following his own death in May 2010, the Simon Monjack estate was functionally bankrupt, encumbered by liens, private claims, and unpaid bills. Neither Jasmine Monjack nor her half-brother received financial inheritance from the Hollywood fortune their father exploited.
