His close associate, Matt (Mail Jeevas), was shot dead by Takada’s bodyguards minutes before the abduction, underscoring the lethal nature of their gambit.
Mello likely did not intend to die pointlessly, but he understood that forcing a sudden crisis was the only way to shatter Kira’s calculated defenses. By deliberately provoking Kira’s operational circle, Mello accepted death as a probable outcome to shatter the deadlock.
