The genesis of "Hymn of Heaven" traces back to mid-2020, during the height of pandemic-driven isolation. Wickham gathered with songwriter Chris Davenport and Bethel Music leaders Bill Johnson and Brian Johnson. Their collective intent was singular: craft a piece of music that directed hurting communities away from immediate chaos and toward the historic promise of final restoration.
Wickham brought an established catalog of anthems characterized by soaring vocal arcs and simple hooks. Davenport injected tight lyrical discipline honed through collaborations with Hillsong and independent worship projects. The Johnson contributions introduced the expansive, devotional cadences synonymous with Redding, California’s worship output. Rather than producing an introspective emotional ballad, the quartet aimed for a majestic corporate creed.
The resulting title track appeared on Wickham’s eighth studio album in June 2021. It instantly bypassed standard industry cycles, capturing the GMA Dove Award for Worship Recorded Song of the Year in 2022. By 2026, music licensing aggregate CCLI continues to list the track among the top tiers of actively licensed Sunday repertoire, signaling longevity rarely granted to ephemeral radio singles.
