By the time Nickelodeon and Turner Broadcasting greenlit seasons three and four in the early 2010s, years had elapsed since the production of season two. Mauriello had grown up. Standing nearly as tall as Scheving, she no longer fit the visual profile of an eight-year-old child visiting her uncle in a whimsical puppet town. The physical realities of production necessitated a recast.
In 2011, production announced that Chloe Lang, another young American dancer with musical theater training, would take over the role of Stephanie for the third and fourth seasons. The transition took place smoothly, without public conflict. Lang brought her own athletic flair to the character until production wrapped for good in 2014.

For Mauriello, stepping away from the pink wig was not an exile from the screen. It was a conscious pause. She contributed voice work to educational programs such as The Electric Company and appeared in brief theater showcases, but she did not aggressively seek pilot-season television casting calls in Los Angeles.
