Fifth Edition Dungeons & Dragons notoriously struggled to balance the Monk. Tabletop players routinely juggled Dexterity, Wisdom, and Constitution while watching their Ki points evaporate after two rounds of combat. Larian Studios altered that dynamic entirely. The developer decoupled jump distances from static movement pools, introduced plentiful gear that adds flat damage riders to unarmed attacks, and reworked key feats to reward hyper-specialized combat engines.
Unarmed strike damage no longer depended solely on slowly scaling martial arts dice. By scattering elemental gauntlets, movement-enhancing rings, and clothing specifically tuned for unarmored combat throughout Acts I and II, the studio gave the class an exponential power curve. Players who had originally planned to use Monks as crowd-control scouts quickly discovered they had built frontline wrecking balls capable of hitting 95% accuracy thresholds against heavily armored targets.
