Elastic resistance plays a critical role in Ross's training toolkit. Mini-bands provide ascending resistance, meaning the tension increases as the muscle contracts toward its shortest point. This dynamic matches the natural strength curve of the gluteal muscles during abduction and hip extension.
Ross places heavy fabric mini-bands either two inches above her knees or around her ankles to initiate her leg sessions. Her circuits consistently feature:
- Lateral Monster Walks: Keeping a continuous quarter-squat posture, Ross steps laterally across the mat, maintaining constant tension on the band. Her knees track outward over her pinky toes to keep the gluteus medius firing continuously.
- Banded Glute Bridges with Abduction: Lying supine with feet flat on the floor, she drives through her heels to raise her hips. At peak extension, she pulses her knees outward against the band, holding the contraction for two seconds before lowering.
- Standing Kickbacks: Anchoring the band around both ankles, Ross braces against a stable surface and extends one leg directly backward at a 45-degree angle, hitting both the upper glute shelf and the glute-hamstring boundary.
These banded circuits prime the nervous system and pre-exhaust the glutes before heavier loading, keeping joints comfortable while delivering high muscular output.
