Long before entering mainstream entertainment headlines, Saba Azad built a recognized career across music, theater, and independent cinema. She is the niece of legendary theater artist and activist Safdar Hashmi, having trained early with his renowned street theatre troupe, Jana Natya Manch.
Azad established a dedicated fan base as one half of the electro-funk duo Madboy/Mink, created alongside musician and actor Imaad Shah. The duo became a fixture in India's indie festival circuit, celebrated for blendings of disco, funk, and cabaret punk.
On screen, Azad moved past conventional romantic-comedy leads after her 2011 outing Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge. Her turn as Parvana Irani in the critically acclaimed streaming series Rocket Boys earned widespread acclaim from critics who had never tracked her personal life. Balancing vocal assignments for major commercial films with screen acting, she has sustained an artistic life separate from Roshan’s multi-crore cinematic franchise work.
