While French Montana and his brother Zack retained childhood memories of their father reading to them or walking the streets of Casablanca, the youngest brother, Ayoub Kharbouch, drew a blank slate. Born right around the time Abdela abandoned the New York apartment, Ayoub grew up in an entirely single-parent setting, with Karim operating as both an older brother and a surrogate paternal figure.
Ayoub was already a teenager when he finally stood face-to-face with Abdela. Growing up hearing family folklore about a father who vanished across the Atlantic created deep-seated ambivalence. When the brothers eventually arranged for Ayoub to travel to Morocco, the meeting carried none of the nostalgia Karim experienced. Instead, it was an introduction to a biological stranger. Ayoub later reflected in public profiles that processing Abdela’s identity meant untangling his mother's sacrifices from his father's absence. The archival photographs from those visits show a tall, American-raised teenager standing beside an aging Moroccan man, two lives connected purely by genetics, yet separated by an entire ocean of lost formative years.
