On January 23, 2005, Rowling gave birth to her third child, Mackenzie Jean Rowling Murray, at the Simpson Centre for Reproductive Health at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Mackenzie arrived just months before the publication of the sixth installment of the Potter saga.
Rowling chose to mark the birth inside the books themselves. The dedication page of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2005) reads: "To Mackenzie, my beautiful daughter, who arrived in the middle of this book. I promise the next one will be ready sooner."
Mackenzie attended school in Edinburgh, surrounded by a close circle of family friends whose discretion was strictly maintained. Unlike children of contemporary American pop stars or reality television figures, Mackenzie has kept zero public-facing social media handles, making no official appearances on red carpets or at Harry Potter studio events.
