Broadcasters are navigating an unforgiving landscape. Streaming platforms continue to consolidate programming, while traditional linear networks face shrinking ad revenues. NBC’s reliance on proven, reliable broadcast stars explains the institutional enthusiasm for Boreanaz. Very few living actors have led successful, 100-plus episode series back-to-back across three consecutive decades.
Boreanaz brings an established audience demographic that still turns up for weekly episodic drama. His casting addresses the network's need for a protagonist who can project athletic capability alongside comedic exasperation. Previous attempts to revive 1970s IP, such as the short-lived 2011 Charlie's Angels or the repeatedly retooled Magnum P.I., often stumbled by stripping away the moral humility that defined their original leads in favor of glossy, bloodless action sequences. Boreanaz's deliberate consultation with Gigi Garner signals an intentional departure from that miscalculation.
