Leather caps do not behave like flexible knit beanies. They offer zero stretch across the circumferential band. Sizing errors are the primary reason buyers abandon authentic leather headwear after a few wears.
To measure accurately, wrap a tailor’s tape roughly 1.5 centimeters above the ears and across the widest part of the occipital bone. Record the circumference in millimeters.
A correct fit feels firm against the temples without causing localized throbbing. The cap must stay seated when you tilt your head down sharply. Because full-grain hides shrink slightly when exposed to moisture and dry heat, never buy a leather skull cap that feels uncomfortably tight out of the box. Look for caps crafted with a taped internal seam; this prevents the edge from rolling inward and digging into your forehead on long rides.
