A flawless cut remains safe only if maintenance keeps the bonds from matting. As the client's hair grows roughly 0.5 inches per month, the distance between the scalp and the keratin bond expands. This newly grown natural hair between root and bond is vulnerable to mechanical traction during daily styling.
Clients must use dedicated loop brushes or soft boar-bristle tools that slide through the root area without catching polymer bonds. Avoid direct heat application, flat irons or curling wands exceeding 300°F (150°C), near bond attachments, as melting polymer will weld adjacent natural hairs together into irreparable tangles. Regular salon check-ins every 8 to 12 weeks ensure that grown-out bundles receive proper re-tipping or removal before shed hair trapped in the bond leads to matting.
