Jackson arrived in the German capital to accept a lifetime achievement honor at the Bambi Awards Germany. Outside the Adlon, located just paces from the historic Brandenburg Gate, hundreds of devoted supporters gathered in sub-freezing temperatures, waving handmade posters, singing classics, and chanting his name for hours on end. Jackson lived inside a bubble of hyper-surveillance, shielded by armed bodyguards and private security teams. Yet, he craved the warmth of his followers.
Inside the suite, the atmosphere was chaotic. Jackson had brought his children along, keeping their identities closely guarded behind silk scarves and cotton cloths to prevent paparazzi from capturing their faces. When the crowd's cheers reached a fever pitch, Jackson decided on impulse to show his youngest child to the spectators below. He picked up the infant, affectionately nicknamed Blanket Jackson, covered his head with a towel to shield his eyes from the camera flashes, and walked toward the French doors leading to the balcony.
