Parenting a viral sensation carries quiet burdens. When a video reaches tens of millions of people, a child's face becomes public property before they can even read. Linda Beltran managed this transition with deliberate discipline.
Rather than staging ongoing comedy bits or writing scripts for follow-up videos, Linda kept life in Northern California as typical as possible. She maintained her focus on Mateo's education, socialization, and sports. Friends and teachers occasionally brought up the clip, but it never became his entire identity inside the classroom.
In retrospective interviews, Linda noted that Mateo barely remembered filming the actual video. His recollections began with the green room at Warner Bros. Studios and the smell of the frosting on the oversized studio cupcakes. As he grew into middle school, the clip shifted from an active life event into a funny, surreal family artifact that happened to live on millions of servers worldwide.
