Shift the environment from a private DM to a public grid or feed, and the meaning transforms. On Instagram, TikTok, and Snapchat Stories, "TB" almost exclusively means throwback. This usage represents a shortened branch of the long-standing hashtag trend "TBT" (Throwback Thursday), stripping away the day-of-the-week restriction so users can post old memories whenever they want.
Grammar provides an immediate giveaway. If the acronym appears followed by a preposition, such as "to", the meaning is never conversational. Captions like "TB to summer road trips" or "Huge TB to high school graduation" frame an archived photograph or video reel. In this setting, the letters do not demand a response. They announce that the content depicts an earlier point in the poster's life.
