Hip-hop vocabulary distinguishes carefully between different degrees of deceit. Two terms that often get blurred online are "snaking out" and "sliming out."
"Snaking someone out" implies venomous sneakiness. A snake acts in total secrecy, hiding in the grass until they strike from behind. Snaking someone usually involves gossip, silent sabotage, stealing a partner behind their back, or whispering to law enforcement. The defining characteristic is cowardice.
"Sliming someone out," while equally treacherous, carries a more overt, predatory edge. It often comes with a grin and open exploitation. When someone slimes you out, they use you openly while you mistake their self-interest for affection or camaraderie. They leave you empty-handed and humiliated, often displaying the spoils in plain view.
In modern relationships, a partner who snakes you out is cheating in hidden hotel rooms while texting you sweet messages. A partner who slimes you out moves into your apartment, makes you pay their lease, leverages your social circle, and walks away without looking back when a flashier option appears.
