Navigating roster turnover demands cold calculation rather than emotional loyalty. George Pickens established himself as one of the premier downfield threats in football, yet the economics of maintaining an elite NFL depth chart punish teams that overpay past performance at the expense of roster depth.
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys scouting staff will spend the coming months weighing Pickens' contract terms against the upside of an elite incoming rookie receiver. If history is any guide, Dallas will protect its financial flexibility, leverage its draft assets, and construct an offense that prioritizes sustained contention over any single individual contract.
